happy birthday usa!

happy fourth of july everybody! we will be celebrating the usa's birthday in grand forks north dakota, with our good friend leah. we will light off some of the very legal explosives we purchased and think of all of you.

this once in a lifetime opportunity to quit our jobs and travel through the usa makes both of us feel blessed because it is in no small part thanks to this country. just being born here gives us the choice to change directions if we so choose, to spend thousands and thousands of dollars in gasoline!

taking this bit of time, and meeting people all over the usa, and driving the backroads of south dakota and montana and washington, we just feel really lucky, and really optimistic.
this country is so massive and so diverse, and it wasn't all that long ago when it wasn't the usa at all. everywhere you turn there is a reason to become polarized: war, oil prices, religion. but everywhere you turn there is also a reason to be proud and be galvanized to do your part to bridge these seemingly vast gaps, and fix these seemingly unfixable problems. we are all just people, trying to make our way and follow a dream of some kind. we are not so different.
so happy fourth! love to everyone! happy birthday dad!!

Oh beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain
For purple mountains majesties above the fruited plain
America! America! God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood, from sea to shining sea
So many brave,so many gave to keep you safe and free
There is no way we can repay their gift of liberty
America! America! Behold your future bright
Of sons and daughters ever free, residing in your light
Your soft green hills, your valleys wide, your endless sparkling streams
The bounty of your fertile soil,on which we build our dreams
America! America! The land where freedom rings
Though near or far,our guiding star, in praise of thee we sing
The symbol of our founding pride,it waves red, white and blue
Reminding us of glories past and all we've yet to do
America! America! God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea
This was in the paper this morning the new verse to America the Beautiful was written by Jimmy Joe Lee of Boulder Creek,CA. He wrote the 1962's song "Lets Dance" sung by Chris Montez hit #1 in USA& UK.
